Steve's question was actually a tough one for the feminine country. What exactly did she want to do? Well strategically speaking, both seemed like logical things to do. A strong, formidable shelter to call a temporary home was a necessity, as well as getting familiar with the new area she now had to live in. Both seemed like things that Switzerland would do, but which seemed like the best option at the moment was the better question she had to ask herself.
"Uh," Lili spoke, tone hesitant as she followed the older person, her teal eyes briefly glanced downwards towards her warm drink, biting her lip as she pondered to herself like a young school child would.
Her answer then came in a form of reply as she glanced back up at Steve. "I think, both are good ideas." She spoke. "What do you say we do first? I-I really don't mind what we do."
Steve had listened to Liechtenstein's response. She decided to let him decide. Steve rolled his blue eyes upwards in thought, thinking about what might be a better decision. He put his hot drink to his lips, letting the warm liquid run down his throat as he thought. "Getting shelter set up would probably be a good start. We can always go back to town later on and see what it's like. I haven't been doing much lately, other than wait around for a training session I guess. I'll probably still have some spare time to see what this world's like later." Steve spoke up when he came up with a decision, removing the coffee cup from his lips once he began speaking.
"If we get shelter set up, we can worry about the surroundings later." The captain could only hope that the higher-ups of the army wouldn't force Liechtenstein into fighting. There were kids fighting out there. Liechtenstein had to be in her teens, and early teens at that. Steve figured Critic might want a teenager out on the battlefield if he had kids running around. Though, it was clear to Steve the frontlines weren't the right place for the feminine country. Sure, he was small and determined to join an army once, but Liechtenstein didn't seem like she was the type of person to want to go fighting. Life was filled with choices, and risking your life to fighting was a choice that someone could make on their own. Steve didn't want to lead someone to their death without the other party not knowing what they were getting into. He didn't want to lead someone their death ever, but knew it could happen.
In response to what Steve had to say, the girl simply nodded. "Fein, I guess that works too." She replied meekly as she walked before lifting the steamy cup of hot chocolate towards her lips. The sensation of warm, creamy milk sweetness sang down her throat, bringing an instant feeling of peace to Lili, in the mist of all her worry.
After that came silence, the awkward kind that came when there was an uneasy pause in a conversation. Lili bit her lip, in efforts to think of conversation topics. Living with her Switzerland and his over protectiveness for so long, made her an easy skeptic towards strangers, but yet at the same time craved her own independence that her brother never seemed to grant, luckily though she knew how to escape him when the timing was right.
That's when a thought hit her. Her own name was quite long, too long for anyone to pronounce, or even remember for that matter. Maybe she could Steve, or anyone else here for that matter when it came to that. "Y-You can call me Lili if you like." She looked up at Steve with a weak smile and a tint of joy in her teal orbs. "Or Liech. I don't mind either, it's probably easier than pronouncing my full name." She told the male before taking another sip of her hot beverage.
Lili. Or Liech. Both were a lot easier to pronounce than Liechtenstein. Steve took another sip of his hot beverage before speaking up again. "Lili. It's sweet and simple." he commented, letting the hot beverage warm his hand as he continued walking. His blue eyed gaze went from where he was going to Liech, contemplating on a conversation topic. "So, Lili, what was your universe like?"
Talking about the past could sometimes help someone out. Remembering the good times always brought a smile to Steve's face. Sure, he did miss his life, but he figured it might be time to just move on and look back on that time as the golden days. He didn't need to relive the past. It was gone anyway. Instead, he wanted to get to know Liechtenstein a bit better, know what kind of background she came from, see if there were any similarities between their worlds. He crinkled his nose briefly, hardly being able to even feel it thanks to the weather.
Not at all minding Steve's new nickname for her, the girl began to think about home. Well, there were plenty of words to describe where she was from. Interesting was among one of them, as well as having it's own rough spots and hardships, especially if one was a country. Her own life had been harsh before, that was until Switzerland had found her and took her in as his younger sister. since then, life for the most part had been sweet and simple, like she eventually expected it to be.
"Ah, well where I am from, countries are people." She started off uncertainly, trying to think of a way to explain her universe to someone who wasn't exactly native to it. "For example, I'm a country, the country of Liechtenstein, and my bruder is Switzerland." She started, strangely feeling like as if she was getting closer to Steve, despite just meeting him. There was something about the man that made Lili feel safe, something she hadn't felt since arriving in Chicago. "Originally, my life as a country was quite difficult. After World War II, I-I was left starving and homeless, almost on the brink of death. That was until my bruder, Switzerland found me and took me in, and since then life has been great. Especially with bruder, he can be a little mean and overprotective at times but I know he means well." She finished, a glint of happiness welled in her face, until the thought of home and the question of whether she would ever return came to mind. "Hope he alright...."
Steve listened to Liechtenstein as she explained how countries worked in her world. Countries were people. That was an interesting concept for Steve to wrap around his head. Usually, he'd just associate countries with their location on a map, not actual people. Blue orbs looked back at Lili as she kept talking. They had World War II in her universe too? Huh. Maybe their universes weren't so far apart. Of course, Steve didn't know much modern history anymore, but they had at least the 40's and World War II in common.
As Steve continued to listen, it seemed like the feminine country was close with Switzerland. Steve was close with his friend Bucky, whom he viewed as a brother. Now he was gone. A grim expression crossed his face briefly, but he quickly swapped it for a neutral one. "You sound like you really care about your brother." he said, noticing that Switzerland was mentioned a few times.
Her eyes still perked with some happiness and hope, the girl nodded in reply to show her excitement. "Ja, I wouldn't know where I'd be with." He voice trailed off into nothing, at the thought of the gun fanatic brother of hers. "He's great. I-I mean a little rough and anti-social, but I still love him." She said meekly before looking down at the ground, sadness returning to her teal eyes.
(ooc: Kinda distracted right now, so bad post *Smacks it*.>_<)
Steve listened to what Lili said, little breezes here and there nipping him in the nose as he kept moving forward. He took another sip of coffee, thinking about how upset he was to lose his best friend. It must have been hard for the country to leave behind someone she was so close to. She must have had no idea what was going on in his life, like all of the people that were pulled into Chicago. There was no way to go home. No way out just yet.
He could tell that she must have been upset, seeing the look in her eyes as she stared at the ground. "Hey. Don't worry about anything. I'm sure we'll find a way to get you home soon." Steve hoped there was a way to go home at least. Not only were the people who had been taken from their universes sufferring, he realized that those close to them had to be sufferring too. Not knowing where your little sister, older brother, child, parent, or even pet had to be pretty hard to take in.
Those teal orbs of Lili glanced back upwards to the man, a flicker of potential hope glistening. "You really think so?" She peeped up, wondering if what Steve claimed was true. Could she actually head back home, was there a way? She then took a sip of her warm chocolate which was now at a tepid temperature.
"But, how Steve...I-I mean how can I head back home. Do you think I really can?" She asked curiously, hoping that the latter knew the answer.
Steve nodded slowly, taking another sip of his coffee. It wasn't nearly as hot as when he first got it, but he didn't mind. He figured that if there was some force that brought them to this universe, there had to be a force to take them back. At least, he desperately hoped that was the case. Lili asked a good question. How would they go back home? There had to be some sort of machine, a ritual maybe, something that could take them home. Steve had to ponder upon what would keep Lili's spirits up without flat-out lying. Steve was a lot of things, but not a liar.
"We have some smart people in the army. I'm sure they'll figure out a way to get us all back home eventually. It might take a while, but I trust that someone there will figure it out somehow." Steve said, voice filled with confidence. "If there was some force that took us away from our homes, there's got to be another force taking us back home, right? Sure, it'll probably take a fairly long time, but we'd go back." One of Steve's greatest concerns was how long they were going to be stuck in this universe. What if he went back home yet again a decade later, only to find everything changed once more? Would he just be doomed to always adapt to a new world?
