The thought made Maleficent frown. It was not that she was repulsed by the idea or even that she disagreed with it – she simply could not see the point of it. In her own experience, fur was extremely uncomfortable and itchy to boot. It definitely wasn’t the sort of thing that she would think to make a coat out of. Seeing that Patch still seemed to be a little shaken up by the experience, the fairy ran a long, slim finger along his spine in an attempt to calm him down.
“Well, if this Cruella woman thinks of trying anything again, she’ll regret it,” Maleficent assured him.
Patch looked up hopefully, the last thing he wanted was to be confronted by Cruella again. He felt good letting that part out to Maleficent and he wagged his tail in response to her kindness. He gave a smile and replied "Really?"
“Yes, of course really,” Maleficent replied, her tone colored with a trace of amusement. “I don’t talk just to hear the sound of my own voice, you know.”
Well, not all the time, she amended silently, remembering the monologue she had delivered to Prince Phillip in the depths of her dungeon, although that had mostly been to gloat over her supposed victory. She suppressed a frown at the memory. Oh, if only I had known…
Some part of the fairy was pleased that her words had comforted Patch, and she continued to stroke him along his spine.
Patch liked the petting. It felt nice. Normally he'd pull away to play but without most of his siblings it felt nice just to hang out with someone. He put his head on Maleficent's leg like an tired pup would and looked up, grateful for her company
Still stroking Patch, Maleficent closed her eyes and allowed a small, contented smile to come across her face. Confused though she may be by how she was feeling somehow, all of this seemed to be so… right. It was as though this was always meant to be. The fairy hadn’t felt this at peace in a long time.
Her eyes opened when she felt the lightest of pressures on her leg. She looked down and saw that Patch was resting his small head on it, looking exhausted.
Patch nodded. He was getting tired. Maybe it was because of the weather or maybe the petting was calming him quite well. Whatever reason he looked up again and smiled tiredly to Maleficent. He really enjoyed her and her company. She was more nicer than people assumed
Maleficent blinked in shock and confusion. Patch was smiling at her.
Oh, will the surprises ever end?
Maleficent honestly could not remember the last time anyone smiled at her – they were usually too busy running away and screaming. She found the gesture to be… nice.
“Well, if you’re tired, perhaps we should go back to the Nostalgia Residence,” she suggested. “Besides, it’s getting colder.”
"Yeah I think that's a good idea" Patch replied tiredly. He liked the fact he and Maleficent didn't run into any trouble while they talked. He also liked the fact he made a new friend. Critic not being here made him have the opportunity to get at least some space. Critic was a good guy but he did worry too much
Maleficent rose from the log and was about to walk away when a snowflake hit the tip of her nose. Frowning, she looked up and found that the puffy gray clouds had begun to release the cold flakes, large and falling fast. A glance was spared in Patch’s direction. The snow was fairly deep as it was – up to the puppy’s chest, she estimated – and was (of course) bitterly cold. Maleficent normally didn’t mind the cold very much, but today she was eager to get out of it as quickly as she could and didn’t want anything to slow her down.
She held her arms out, silently inviting Patch to jump into them.
(OCC: Damnit. We really are overloading the cuteness )
Patch looked at Maleficent and then looked to the snow. It was really deep and it was a bit too much for him to handle. So with a quick slip he successfully jumped into Maleficent's arms. Looking back to her face he gave a smile of gratitude. He really didn't want to get sick from the cold
(OOC: We are, aren’t we? Do you think we should end the thread? Because I don’t know about you, but I’m out of steam for it)
Patch took Maleficent’s offer and was quick to jump into her arms. The puppy was much lighter than she had anticipated, which she was grateful for. Maleficent could feel warmth radiating from his small body. She returned the Dalmatian’s smile with a small one of her own and started to walk.
The fairy had gone about three steps before the full force of the situation hit her. She, Maleficent, the self-proclaimed Mistress of All Evil, was holding a puppy. A puppy. What disturbed her more than that was the fact that she was okay with this.
What in the name of evil was wrong with her? Was it this place? She had at first assumed that Chicago had no magic to call its own, but was it possible that she had been wrong? Was it making her – nice?
If that was indeed the case, Maleficent determined that she was going to do all that she could to end this war as quickly as possible.
(OCC: Sure I'm a bit out of steam too. We can always have these two hangout in other threads. This will be the last post for it )
Patch didn't fall asleep. He was too cold to do so. What made him also not fall asleep was he wanted to stay awake enough to tell Chick and Critic that Maleficent wasn't as mean as they thought she was. He would show those two. He did like them but he wanted to show what he thought of. He was that type of stubborn pup. Until then though he just relaxed and allowed snow to fall as he and Maleficent strode off to the Critic's household
