"Really! I've never seen anything so big before! It's bigger than my home!" Patch wagged his tail even more. He just was so eager. He couldn't help but allow his curiousity get the better of him he just wagged his tail as he saw the giant dragon
At Patch’s words, what appeared to be a wide smile crossed Maleficent’s face. Considering that she was in her dragon form, she suspected that it looked more like she was going to eat him.
“I’m glad,” she remarked. “Most people don’t like this form.”
Amusement flickered in her gold eyes when he said that she was bigger than his house.
“Not just your house, young one. I dwarf even my castle while I’m a dragon.”
"Oh... I can see why but I don't really think it's that bad" Patch calmly replied. He looked around the snowy place, chicago was different from london and Maleficent made it the more comfortable for some reason. Even IF she was a dragon, Patch felt brave. He felt determinded with Maleficent around
“Not that bad,” Maleficent echoed, her tone tinged with amusement. The puppy thought her dragon form “wasn’t that bad.” She wasn’t entirely sure if that was a good thing or not, but somehow she didn’t mind. Patch wasn’t the only one feeling differently; the fairy found that she herself was feeling odd as well. Blossoming within her was a warm, almost protective feeling, and it was directed entirely at the little creature at her feet. It was something she had only felt around Diablo before.
Thinking of her raven made Maleficent’s eyes grow dull as the reality of her situation hit her once more. Without a word of warning to Patch, she shifted back into her normal form and sank into the snow.
Patch was a bit shocked at the quick return to Maleficent's true form. The powerful fairy clearly had something hit her a tad. Concerned about her, Patch had the curtiousy to go up and look at her. With a calm and gentle voice he asked "What's wrong?"
At the sound of the puppy’s naïve voice, Maleficent forced her expression from melancholic into a (somewhat) pleasant one. Well, more pleasant than a frown, at least.
“Oh, nothing,” she said quickly. The lie came naturally; she had always been very good at it. “I was just… thinking about a couple of things, that’s all.”
Almost unconsciously, Maleficent reached out and started to stroke the top of Patch’s head, much in the way she would have done for her raven. The familiar feeling relaxed her some.
Patch didn't back away from the hand. He rather enjoyed it frankly. Patch didn't have the boldness to ask and push Maleficent further so he kept quiet. After a while though the petting although nice made Patch want to make a conversation. He wasn't as patient as his siblings were, he turned a bit and gently asked "Is this about your raven? If it is I'll help you find him!"
“Well… yes,” Maleficent admitted, still stroking Patch. She was actually a little impressed that the Dalmatian had remembered what she said – from what she had heard about puppies, they had short attention spans. “He was hurt the last time I saw him, and I’m worried that he might have gotten worse.”
Knowing her idiot minions, it was very likely that poor Diablo had gotten smashed by now. Maleficent tried not to think about that, instead focusing on what Patch said next. Despite herself, she chuckled a little at his enthusiasm.
“I don’t think that will be possible, Patch. You see, he’s still in my world.” The fairy frowned. “At least, I think he is. I haven’t seen anything to make me believe differently.”
An awful thought occurred to Maleficent in that moment – what if Diablo was somehow lured onto Ask ThatGuy’s side? She didn’t think it to be terribly likely, but she had also spent all these years thinking that she was dead. The idea horrified her. If it were true… would she have to fight against him?
"That would be good. If he was with us or not with Ask Thatguy and still at home it'd keep him safe" Patch said back, disappointed his new friend's pet wasn't with her. His childlike tendency did show a lot with Maleficent. He was still naive to chicago and the war in general. Patch's ears dropped at the fact Diablo may have been hurt before Maleficent even got to him "He's probably alright... At least I hope so"
“I’m sure you would,” Maleficent remarked, her tone not betraying the surprise she felt. She couldn’t remember anyone ever wanting to keep her or Diablo safe besides themselves. In fact, she was all but certain that just about everyone she had come into contact with in her lifetime was actively praying for something horrible to happen to her.
An odd feeling was beginning to bubble inside of her, the same one from yesterday. To Maleficent’s great annoyance, she still didn’t know what it was.
Patch leaned his body as a puppy would normally do to comfort a owner. God he hated being useless, it wasn't helping his confidence any. He wanted to help her, help do something. Maybe that's why he wasn't bothered being in a war maybe it would be the chance to give him something to do
Maleficent lapsed into silence for a moment, unsure of what else there was to be said. In that time frame, she felt a light pressure against her leg. Instinctively, she tensed, expecting violence of some sort. It was only when she looked down and saw what was touching her that she allowed herself to relax.
It was Patch, nestled against her as though she were his mother. Maleficent blinked at the image before carefully lifting the spotted puppy up onto her lap.
“I imagine you would be more comfortable out of the snow,” she said, scratching behind his ears.
"Yeah it's cold" Patch replied, enjoying the feeling of his ears being scratched. Well that felt nice. Really nice. His ears were itching anyway. She was so nice to him, he just didn't understand about the critic being afraid of her. He gave a doggy smile at Maleficent
“Yes, well, that is what snow is generally associated with,” Maleficent said in dry voice, rolling her eyes. Still, she continued to scratch Patch’s ears and even felt herself begin to smile a bit. One slender arm wound around the puppy’s tiny frame in an attempt to keep him warm. She told herself that it was because his fur was short and might not be able to do the job in this weather.
Maleficent suddenly found herself feeling curious about Patch’s story; she had briefly seen the cover to its DVD but wasn’t able to piece together anything about what lie beneath.
“Tell me, what’s your story? I imagine it can’t be easy growing up with a hundred other puppies.”
Patch sheepishly shrugged and allowed Maleficent to cuddle him. At the story-telling question he nodded "Yeah, it's not easy. Well I wasn't born out of 101. I was one of fifteen. My mum and dad were living at a small apartment with their owners. Sometime ago I got captured for my coat"
He shivered in fear at that "This woman named Cruella wanted to make a coat out of me and my siblings and other puppies. My mum and dad found us and they took us back home. We moved because we adopted the new dalmatian pups. At the country though it wasn't easy"
He continued a bit calmly "I got lost in london but after a while of meeting cruella again I got back to the country before getting lost in a flood and coming here" Patch looked to Maleficent for her reaction
