Personality:
Gohan is a brave, noble, kind, compassionate and loyal young man. While he does like martial arts, adventure and being a hero, he doesn't really seek fame or fortune or even have a passion for it. He mostly fights for the sake of others and to help, viewing himself as someone who should always do the right thing. He's incredibly intelligent, and is quite confident in his intelligence as he always likes to be pragmatic and quick-witted during battle. Thankfully he is quite quick-witted and skilled, always trying to figure out a solution. While he is relatively, and overall, humble and extremely noble he can get over-confident and egotistical when he feels like he has the upper-hand. He is also extremely empathetic, and will get extremely angry when someone he loves is in harms way. Despite having a relatively good temper, it can be pushed to a breaking point when people he cares about or innocent people get harmed. Despite not being a doormat and has unquestionable rage when pushed too far, he is gentle, soft-spoken and usually is easy going. He's well-mannered and can come across as shy, but he is actually quite a social butterfly once he is given a chance. He also has a tendency to have a pretty casual and sardonic side to him, mostly from his laid-back side. He also has a tendency to be quite theatrical as well, having a interest and passion for the cape and costume crowd along with theater. Gohan also has incredible book smarts so he's quite a fast learner.
History:
Gohan was born the eldest son of Goku and Chi-Chi, encouraged to study at a tender age. While it was due in some part of his mother's insistence, Gohan had always wanted to be a successful scholar. At the age of four however he was kidnapped by his uncle Raditz, taken as prisoner for leverage to get his father to join him. He was rescued from Raditz but due to showing immense potential in power, Piccolo took him as his student. Despite clashing a few times, Gohan developed a strong bond with Piccolo. He had bravely fought against the saiyans alongside Krillan, Tien, Chaotzu and Yamcha. But most of the Z fighters were killed by nappa and the saibamen they had. Piccolo even risked his life for Gohan, sacrificing himself in effort to give Gohan a chance at life. Gohan never forgave himself for this and because of his guilt he went to Namek alongside Krillan and Bulma for the persuit of dragon balls to bring back their allies to life. He met Frieza and his forces, going out of his way to stop their efforts to find the dragon balls, even helping Dende a innocent namekian boy. They tried to also outsmart Vegeta from taking all of them as well but were forced to join him in alliance when the Ginyu force confronted them. Thanks to Goku and Krillan's efforts, the ginyu force was taken down but goku had to be healed as a result. Vegeta then went to sleep which caused Gohan and Krillan to sneak their wishes in to bring Piccolo to Namek to confront Frieza. Piccolo unfortunately could not taken down frieza and neither could Vegeta, which left them at a loss until Goku eventually defeated him. Gohan took Piccolo away due to being injured by Frieza and was transported back to earth alongside Bulma, Piccolo, Dende, Vegeta and the rest of the namekians. With Dende's assistance they brought back their allies but were surprised that Goku wanted to wait a little longer to come home. He handled Garlic Jr while waiting for his father. Gohan then realized that his father wanted to get stronger for something, but he wasn't sure what yet.
A year passed and a futuristic vistor, who would be later known as future trunks, warned them of Androids coming to destroy their world. Gohan, with Piccolo and Goku as his training partners, spent three years training for the threat as he felt it was his purpose to help. He eventually fought Dr. Gero and Android 19 believing THEM to be the androids in question, only to learn that no 17 and 18 were along with their friend 16. Gohan was assigned to return Bulma home and then check on Goku to see if he was well, a decision he was happy to oblige too. He eventually met up with Future Trunks over a mystery of a unknown and old version of Trunks' time machine. They learned eventually that a unknown creature took it from a alternate timeline, which they would eventually learn to be Cell. Gohan was then taken to be trained in the hyperbolic time chamber alongside the recently cured Goku, Vegeta and Future Trunks. Gohan spent a 'year' in the time chamber finally becoming super saiyan one. He bonded quite close with his father but was unaware of his plan against Cell. He then was encouraged by goku to spend Cell's ten day waiting period on studying, spending casual bonding time with him and fun activities. Something of which really confused him. After the ten days passed, Goku fought against Cell only for Goku to encourage Gohan to. Gohan fought long and hard against cell, even turning Super Saiyan Two after Cell brutally killed 16, and eventually defeated him.
Gohan felt a loss though as Cell tried to not accept defeat by making himself into a bomb, forcing Goku to give his own life up. They tried to revive him only for Goku to express he was more of a danger alive than dead, giving Gohan the torch to the strongest. Gohan took his father's advice and did train himself when he could, after studying and helping his mother with his new brother Goten. As years passed things became peaceful and chi-chi encouraged him to make friends by going to a public high school. Gohan felt a little out of place as a teen saiyan but tried his best, he did make friends such as Videl and the two had a very temporary romance. But the two just didn't see eye to eye and felt it best they stayed friends. Gohan explained this to chi-chi as she wanted Gohan to live a normal life, and was relieved that Chi-chi supported his decision to stay friends with Videl as 'there was plenty of other fish'. He continued his studies and became a good trainer for his brother, even making friends with Trunks and Vegeta.
Until one day Piccolo disappeared, Bulma called him up and Gohan definitely knew he had to find his closest and most trusted friend. With Bulma by his side, the two searched only to reappear in a new city called Chicago. He and bulma were forced as slaves, told that they were not trusted. Gohan realized it was best to play the part and earn trust as they had nothing better to do. Still, it was alright, since he had friends like Piccolo, 17 and 16
