Mulan is a free-spirit, she is opinionated, independent, determined and unquestionably noble. She's brave, adventurous, stubborn and strong-minded. She is a pretty good pragmatist, but has a tendency to put her foot in her mouth when pushed to her breaking points. She's got a passionate side, protective of everyone she loves and will do anything for them, even if it means losing her own life. She's quite charming and friendly, but has a tendency to be socially awkward and absent-minded as she is a bit too energetic. She's fun-loving and enjoys life, but due to her outgoing curious spirit has a strong dislike for tradition and rules. She's extremely compassionate, caring and well-meaning but is a bit clumsy, pensive and can get self-conscious easily. That said she's witty, helpful, reliable, resourceful and incredibly intelligent.
History:
Fa Mulan was born the only child of traditional parents Fa Zhou and Fa Li. While she was well-loved and was close to both her parents, she tended to get into trouble sometimes due to being mischievous and forgetful. As the years passed Mulan worked hard in her father's farm, helping out with chores whenever possible. Then came the day she was to meet with the matchmaker, this happened when Mulan was just eighteen. Mulan tried her absolute best to take this seriously, but got distracted by chores and practicing for it. She was late to the matchmaker's salon but thankfully made it just in the nick of time with the help of her mother, grandmother and mother's friends. She made too many mistakes to the stern and impatient matchmaker's liking and was publicly humiliated by said matchmaker. She was yelled at in front of her family, told she would only bring dishonor to her family. Mulan, devastated by the failure, went to the gardens to sulk and go over it. She was comforted by her father, who told her to take this in stride, and that she was just a late bloomer. Then suddenly the emperor's main advisor, Chi Fu, came to draft many men to war against the huns. To Mulan's horror, her father was drafted as he was the only man able to fight. Mulan, aware of his injuries, begged for him to be spared but was silenced as it wasn't her place to speak. Mulan during dinner told her father she didn't want him to die but her father angrily told her he knew his place and that Mulan needed to be aware of hers. Mulan, devastated by her father's stubbornness, left to sulk once again but then realized that if her father wouldn't listen she had to take matters into her own hands.
She stole his armor alongside his draft letter, cutting her hair and disguising herself as a man. She then took her horse Khan, running away from home to impersonate a solider. She eventually met up with mushu, who claimed to be her guardian and was going to help her. With mushu's assistance she managed to convince everyone she was a soldier but was disliked due to being clumsy. She lied saying her name was Ping instead and managed to eventually, through immense difficulty, get the soilders to respect her. She trained very, very hard and managed to do quite well and did well, even going out of her way to save Li Shang, her captain. She began a very good friendship with Li Shang, alongside Chen Po, Ling and Yao. But after a fight with the huns, she got injured revealing she was a woman. She was set to be executed but Li Shang, grateful she saved his life, banished her instead. Mulan went to return home but then realized the huns were due to arrive, and she went to the emperor's town. Despite being told to leave, Mulan begged for them to listen. Yao, Chen Po and Ling agreed to keep their eyes open but Mulan knew they would come and prepared herself. She was proven to be correct and the emperor was captured. Mulan showed another way out and gave them some plans if they were willing to listen. Yao, Chen Po, Ling and finally Li Shang put their prejudices aside to assist her. Mulan then managed to defeat Shan-Yu, the leader of the huns, save Li Shang and china itself from destruction. Chi Fu went to admonish her, calling her just a woman who would never amount to anything and wanted her to be executed. Ling, Yao and Chen Po stood in front of her protectively while Li Shang declared her to be a hero.
Then the emperor arrived and asked to see her, Mulan humbly bowed before him awaiting his criticism, instead the emperor called her the savior of china and bowed before her. Then everyone in the main village bowed before her. Mulan was then offered multiple jobs in the emperor's palace but Mulan declined, saying while she was happy to assist should she be needed, it was best she return to her family. She was given the crest amulet and shan yu's sword as gifts to honor her family. She returned home, reconciled with her parents and then met up with Li Shang again to proceed with a romance as he fell in love with her. Many years passed and at twenty one Mulan became a soldier for hire, and was eventually engaged to wed Li Shang. She then was assigned to help the emperor's three daughters(Ting ting, Su and Mei) to wed the emperor's ally's three sons as was an agreement they made years ago. She was annoyed by it but agreed to it if only to abide by her ruler's wishes. She then got into many arguments with Li Shang who didn't have many things in common with her. It was made even worse when Ting Ting fell in love with Ling, Su with Chen Po and Mei with Yao. Shang angrily told them all off, motivating Mulan to break up the engagement. She then learned from Mushu that he planned for them to break up which caused Mulan to realize that the problems were really set up and they could still work it out. As she was about to fix it with her boyfriend, they were attacked by bandits and shang sacrificed his life to save her. Devastated by his loss and not wanting to dishonor him AND not wanting her friends to be miserable in marriage. She made a deal with the ally to marry his eldest son to make the alliance true. Fortunately for her shang stopped it as did mushu as in disguise of the golden dragon of unity. Mushu in disguise allowed Mulan to marry shang as well as release the princesses from their vow to marry who they wanted.
Mulan married shang, becoming his wife and the two were content in marriage, which was made better as shang agreed to combine their guardians as he saw that some traditions were meant to be broken after all. Mulan made her own compromises with shang as she felt it was only fair and the two proceeded with a happy marriage, ready to help china whenever possible. One day though she awoke in a world and country that wasn't hers and was extremely confused. She took residency at ask thatguy's as she had no where else to go. She didn't feel right about it but felt it best to keep things shut until she decided what was best.
