Quote: "Remember me? I'm Ben's kid"
Name: Otis
Age: 24
Where is this character from?: Barnyard
Why did you pick him/her?: I really, really like Otis. Loved the movie ever since I was a kid and loved how Otis developed in the movie. Then the stupid series happened. I'm not gonna really consider the show canon and strictly go by the movie
Picture:
Personality:
Otis is a well-meaning, fun-loving, caring, energetic, compassionate and creative cow. He also has a tendency to be childish, insecure, cowardly, impulsive and stubborn. He always goes out of his way for others and is immensely protective of those he cares for, but he tends to overanalyze when under pressure. He also tends to allow his desires and fears get the better of him, but this is due to him genuinely struggling with his selfishness. He's surprisingly wise, thoughtful and ambitious but it can be clouded by his tendency to let his emotions get the better of him. He's empathetic, undeniably so, which is due in part to how in tune he is with how he feels. He is a carefree, friendly, happy-go lucky cow most of the time and usually can brush off tension but if he feels he's been pushed too far, he can get quite spiteful. He's quite a excellent leader though, working hard and always puts others first even in his most selfish moments. He also has a sarcastic side, having a relatively good sense of humor, which is assisted by his creativity and wit. His creativity is also due in part that he is quite mischievous and adventurous in spirit. He's also unquestionably loyal, kind and considerate of others.
History:
Otis was born at a county fair but he never could recall his birth parents, being abandoned at a extremely tender age. He was taken in by Ben, a single male bull who was in charge of a farm when the farmer in charge was away. Otis was raised contently as Ben's only son, and despite ben's strict personality clashing with Otis' fun-loving personality, the two were undeniably close. Otis had some struggles here and there trying to fit in as a young calf, but he befriended many animals on the farm. He was particularly good friends with Pig, Freddie(A Ferret), Pip(A mouse) and Peck(A rooster). As years went by, Otis started to slowly be given more and more responsibilities as Ben's future replacement as leader. Much to Otis' dismay as he didn't see the point in being a leader, not wanting the job as he preferred to do whatever he wanted. This came to a head one day around when Otis was twenty, Otis was late for the yearly coyote season meeting as he was doing a experiment with ice surfing. He got into tension with Ben, as Ben was irritated with Otis' lack of responsibility and the fact Otis failed to accomplish his promise to assist in fixing the fence to prevent coyotes from getting in. Otis admitted to Ben that he felt that the coyotes weren't a threat and that once he was leader, he would let people do what they wanted. Which caused Ben to remind Otis that strong men stood up for themselves but stronger men stood up for others. Otis ignored it, going off to goof some more but did promise to ben he would do a night shift with Ben to check for coyote's. As he was hanging out with Pip, he met Daisy and her good friend Bessy and Otis despite himself was interested in daisy. But he tried to ignore it at first, realizing he had to focus on his night shift with his father.
That very night, Otis went to meet with his father but was admittedly distracted by the fact there was a fun party going on in the barn. After a relatively good chat with his father, he was given permission to leave his shift to join the party. Otis joined the party, unaware that coyotes did in fact attack the chicken house. While Otis partied, Ben protected the chickens but at the cost of his life. Ben died from the wounds Dag, the leader of the coyote pack, gave him and Otis was forced to witness his father die in his arms. Devastated by the loss of his father, Otis fell into a deep depression, feeling guilt for not being there. Otis was surprised, and overwhelmed, by the new responsibility of being leader of the barnyard animals, but he did his best to abide by the leadership as he wanted to make his father proud. He did everything he could to avoid the farmer, their owner, from knowing they could walk and talk as that was forbidden for humans to know. He nearly got the farm caught but thanks to his advisor and good friend Miles, he managed to succeed. He struggled with his temptations of fun and spite as a local boy bullied the animals under his care, and with the assistance of the Jersey Cows defeated said local boy.
The event with the local boy nearly got Otis in trouble with the human police, which made Otis realize he was doing something wrong. Or at least he thought so. So he decided to literally be his father and watch the hilltops awaiting for coyotes. With Daisy by his side, he awaited in case they returned. He then learned Daisy's husband and most of her family was killed by a severe storm, and Otis comforted her, resulting in the two proceeding with a romance. He slept during his shift but awoke to the howls of Dag. Angry, he impulsively chased Dag's pack but got cold feet as Dag and his pack were just quick and better equipped at fighting than he was. Dag then bullied him and told him that he would steal some chickens every once in a while and if Otis tried to stop him, he would kill every single farm animal he saw. Otis was saddened and completely ashamed by the lack of courage he had. So Otis made a decision to run away and allow Duke, the farmer's dog, to take charge instead. As he made a attempt to leave, Daisy tried to encourage him to stay but Otis admitted to her that he did not want to fail the farm animals that trusted him so much. He cared about them all and felt he was unworthy to be a leader. Daisy encouraged him that caring about the people in his care was what made him a good leader. Despite his appreciation for her words, Otis attempted to leave only to learn from Peck that all the chickens were taken by the coyotes, including Maddy, a chick that Otis took under his wing. Feeling that this madness had to end, Otis went to confront the coyotes alone. He met up with Dag and did manage to stand up against Dag, fighting the coyotes relatively successfully, but Dag played dirty and injured his leg. This caused him to be overwhelmed by the pack but Otis was unwilling to give up. Otis was about to strike alone once more but was pleasantly surprised by the assistance of all his allies. He gained more confidence thanks to the appearance of his friends and fought most coyotes off. He was about to be killed by Dag but was alerted to the surprise attack thanks to Peck's calling crow. Otis was about to strike Dag hard, possibly to kill him, but he resisted as he knew that was not the right thing to do. He banished Dag, telling him not to ever return to the farm.
He then returned home, just in the nick of time to assist with the birth of Daisy's calf. Daisy gave birth to a healthy sweet little boy and Otis was delighted at the sight. He was even more flattered and emotional when daisy decided to name her son Ben. He then agreed to stay as leader, eventually adopting Ben as his own son and officially beginning a relationship with Daisy. Things went relatively normal for the barn then, with Otis being a very well-liked leader. Otis learned to balance his father's teachings with his own insight and thinking, being a fun but firm leader. One day though Otis awoke in a empty field, surrounded by tall buildings. He eventually learned that this place was called Chicago and Otis worriedly tried to find a place to stay. He found a relatively decent looking house, lead by Film Brain and Otis agreed to stay in exchange for a way to get back home. He now resides here and hopes his insight can help.
Allies: Daisy, Bessy, Pip, Pig, Freddie, Peck, Duke, Miles, Defiants Army
Enemies: Dag, Critic army, ATG and Facilier army
Plans: If we have a Daisy, romance her. Otherwise, make friends and help out in possibly being a leader in the defiant's army, maybe be a 'general' of sorts.
