Squidward is vain, self-righteous, stubborn, petty, spiteful and condescending. He's close minded, due to focusing too much on things he finds worth his time. He's arrogant and truly believes himself to be above many people, and values his own needs above everyone else's. Despite his confidence, selfishness and petty behavior, he does have a well-meaning heart. He's kind, thoughtful, artistic, creative and enjoys life for life's sake. While he complains a lot and tends to be whiny, he's surprisingly easy to please. He is overall quite mild-mannered and even has quite the sarcastic sense of humor. He's also pretty accepting and insightful all things considered and does believe in doing the right thing. He's also surprisingly loyal to those he cares for most. He's also incredibly dedicated and determined in his passions, being quite ambitious despite his relatively snooty attitude.
History:
Squidward was born in bikini bottom, to Octoson Tentacles and his wife Octavia Tentacles. His parents were quite high class society members and both of them worked jobs, his mother a successful cook and his father a banker. While they were busy, they always tried to spend time with squidward and always encouraged him. Squidward was a bit closer with his mother but also got along quite well with his father. His father tended to encourage him to find a successful career, while his mother encouraged him that he was genuinely the best thing ever. This resulted in squidward being somewhat spoiled and egotistical, which was only made worse when his parents viewed this as a good thing. He eventually graduated high school with a decent arts scholarship and went to college, graduating with a associates in arts.
Unfortunately he never really hit it big, but that didn't stop him. He continued trying and refused to give up, believing the town he grew up in was the problem. He eventually got a job as a cashier for Mr. Krabs and moved in with both spongebob squarepants and Patrick star as his neighbors. While the two annoyed him to his core, he grew fond of them overtime, spongebob especially. He even would sometimes worry about spongebob when he never showed up at work or got upset. One day Mr. Krabs made him manager at the krusty krab 2, a job that paid more but he never really liked the job. He only did it to get a higher paycheck, but felt somewhat guilty that spongebob was so hurt over it. So he never really bragged about it or even enjoyed the job. He then was shocked as Mr. Krabs was framed for Neptune's crown being missing and was worried about his boss being killed for it. He refused to adventure forth to find the crown however, valuing his time way more than his bosses life. However he grew suspicious as plankton sold his food successfully with helmets for everyone. He confronted plankton and realized he framed Mr. Krabs to steal the krabby patty formula that made Krabs so successful. He threatened to call the police but was captured for his results and became a mind controlled slave, along with the rest of bikini bottom. He was thankfully saved by spongebob, and grateful for his freedom willingly gave spongebob the manager job. He then worked alongside spongebob, as a regular employee, constantly trying to boost his art career.
He then, one day, awoke in on dry land. He choked and would've died were it not for Nella's spell. Dark Nella made him able to breathe on land with a water pendant's help. In exchange, he would work for her as a butler of sorts. Squidward, not really able to have any options, agreed. It paid well at least.
