Tea Time (Mertle)

Eugena walked around the house. She'd started a pot of tea and some food baking in the oven. But she paused remembering the cute redheaded girl with glasses she'd seen around the house. The news got around fast here and people were trying to find foster or adopted parents for the children and teen members of the army. And she was thinking of taking her in. She figured out her name was Mertle but she didn't know much beyond that. Perhaps she could get to know her more today. She headed upstairs and knocked on the door she thought she was in.

"Mertle? Are you in there dear? I'm making some tea and some food. I was wondering if you'd like some." said Lady Waltham.

News was beginning to spread around by the kids here that the CPS had given the army at least three weeks to get kids at least a guardian or adopted parent. Mertle didn't know if it was actually true but she did know for a fact the news did catch sightings of other armies, which lead to their discovery. The news didn't say everything and atg did pay them to be silenced, but mertle knew their luck would run out. And mertle also knew that she would be forced away if she didn't have anyone to take care of her. As much as she didn't like most of the kids here, they were all she had. She didn't want to go from one new place to a completely different one.

She had seen adults take in other kids besides her which only made her more afraid. What made everyone else so special that she wasn't? Maybe she wasn't as great as she originally assumed she was. She was in her room thinking to herself when she smelled tea cookies and tea biscuits in the oven, as well as some tea. Now mertle liked tea and tea time, even though she was raised American. She and her mother would have garden outings. It reminded herof home. Then she heard a woman's voice, mertle knew her as Lady Waltham but that was it. But she seemed like a nice lady.

After all she was invited to tea time. Mertle raced to her door and smiled up "Oh hello miss Waltham! I'd love to!" She then widened her eyes "You like tea time too? I always try to do it every Saturday back at home!" She smiled more, trying to be charming now "You know, if we had more people have tea time, we'd have a heck of a classier place" She then laughed a little bit, hoping lady Waltham would agree or at least find the comment funny.

Eugena smiled at the young girl.

"I'm glad to hear that." replied Eugena.

She nodded.

"Good idea. I'm from England in my world so we probably drink tea more than most people." said Eugena.

She chuckled.

"I agree with that. And there's always time for tea. Perhaps we could form some kind of tea time club. See if others in the army would be interested." mentioned Eugena.

She paused for a moment before she lost her nerve.

"There's something else I wanted to talk to you about. I always wanted children but I never had any. My brother and husband and my parents have all passed away. And then I saw you and I thought would you let me adopt you as a second mother. Not to replace who you have back home but to keep you safe here. And not shoved off with strangers." replied Eugena.
