Human/Current Form:
Personality:
Cogsworth can come across as immensely bossy and strict, and that is because he is. But it is mostly because he wants things to go smoothly and have everyone be productive and safe, due to being a perfectionist and tends to be protective of others. He's caring, compassionate and DOES have a understanding about having fun and can have a sense of humor, but he struggles with his emotional side due to being a workaholic and easily anxious. Despite his no nonsense attitude, he does do what he does for the benefit of others. He's also quite understanding, kind and thoughtful, which is why he takes his job and responsibility as seriously as he does. He can be a bit indecisive with his responsible side and his emotional side, so it's easy to push him around. Despite this he does have a determination and ambition about him and will do what he can to help those he cares about. He's immensely loyal as well, even when he's irritated with said friend he will lay his life down for them.
History:
Cogsworth was born in the northern part of france and was from a rich family line, which assisted him in being the majordomo(butler) for the royal family. He was hired around his early thirties, not long after his hiring the prince of the castle was born. Cogsworth had a hand in taking care of the prince, as his guardian and right hand man, and in being the leader of the servants. He was quite good at his job, as in he was the only one really willing and able to do it. The servants didn't really respect him in the way he liked but they didn't necessarily hate or disobey him completely. With the exception of Lumiere, a more fun-loving servant. They disagreed a lot and had a rivalry, but at the same time the two became good friends, even to the point of being close as brothers. Together, along with others, they managed to deal with the prince's bratty ways most of the time.
One Christmas eve though, the prince was angrier than usual and took it out on a old beggar woman. She offered a rose in exchange for a place to stay from the cold. The prince, disgusted by both her appearance and gift, rejected her. This caused the woman to reveal herself into a enchantress, who then punished the prince by turning him into a beast and the servants, Cogsworth included, into household objects. The rose, which was also enchanted, was the time limit to how long the spell would be permanent. If the prince could earn love and fall in love before the last pedal fell, the spell would be broken. For years cogsworth managed house and board, losing hope with each passing day. Some time passed and a man by the name of Maurice trespassed into their house, causing the beast to imprison him. Thankfully his daughter belle took his place as prisoner. Cogsworth, despite wanting badly to break the spell, still wanted to abide by the beast's rules and would be indecisive with whether to obey the rules or help in the schemes to make belle fall in love with the beast.
This included celebrating Christmas, the beast hated it so cogsworth wasn't willing to celebrate either but he did have his own enjoyment of Christmas which finally convinced him to agree to celebrate. Thanks to Lumiere, chip and mrs. potts convincing him, he did his part in celebrating. But then the beast lost his patience with belle due to her leaving the castle area. He felt his own personal guilt for failing to help belle and stayed by her in the dungeons, only for the beast to atone for his anger and ask for forgiveness. They then celebrated along with get to know belle. One night the two danced and had a romantic evening, cogsworth went even so far as to believe things would turn out fine. Only for the beast to admit he let her leave to help her father, due to being in love with her. Cogsworth, anxious over not being human, began to believe belle would not return, only for her to return and also a angry mob to attack the beast. Cogsworth, desperate to protect his friends, did his own part in protesting, which included listening to Lumiere's plan without hesitation. He saved Lumiere from being attacked by Lefou and assisted in protecting the castle. He then went up alongside Lumiere and Mrs. Potts to see his master injured and belle weeping over him, confessing her love. Feeling as if he lost a son of his own, cogsworth had his own personal grief. Then the beast not only became alive he turned human, as did Lumiere, Mrs. Potts and Cogsworth himself. Then they celebrated as his master and belle married, and feeling relieved to be human once more.
One day though he, belle and Mrs. potts disappeared at the same time. He began to get really stressed and isolated himself only to work the house of the critic army, a army that generously allowed him, Mrs. Potts and Belle to stay. But seeing how determined both belle and Mrs. Potts were, cogsworth snapped out of his anxious stupor and is trying to handle the new change, while also assisting the people in the army.
