Where is this character from?: Disney Original Universe, particularly Three Muskiteers, Ducktales and Fun and Fancy Free. I'm gonna just combine a lot of stuff cause Donald has parents and lived in both America and france. I also made some stuff up about Donald's parents as well as why he was rich but is now middle class.
Why did you pick him/her?: Goofy and Mickey need Donald. It's just the perfect duo. Besides, we need more Disney original characters tbh.

Donald is undoubtedly the most empathetic and emotional duck you could meet. He's passionate, easily impulsive, hot-tempered, stubborn and a bit of a egotist. He's also immensely competitive and does what he can to be perfect and be successful. He used to be also a coward, but now he's changed immensely to being brash and determined to be brave and tough. There is no denying that he is now quite brave but sometimes big danger causes Donald to either be easily overwhelmed or far too rash to realize it. Despite his flaws, Donald is extremely well-meaning, kind and loyal to the core. He is extremely compassionate, understanding and friendly and usually does everything in his power to make sure everyone is happy. He's devoted to his friends and family, working hard to provide support for them. He pushes himself very hard due to having a immense complex to protect those he loves. He's loving and sweet, but tries to cover his sensitive side by trying to be tough.
History:
Donald was born alongside his twin sister Della in Scotland, to their parents Quackmore and Hortense Duck. Two very successful but old ducks who worked alongside their uncle Scrooge Mcduck to build a empire. They were immensely successful but got busy a lot. Both Della and Donald, while loved and taken care of properly, found themselves taken care of by nannies and babysitters a lot. Unfortunately things changed very quickly. Scrooge one day became so immensely greedy and both Quackmore and Hortense were eventually fired due to business and moral differences. This resulted in Della, Donald, Quackmore and Hortense having to leave Scotland and move to france. His father became a blacksmith and his mother worked as a waitress. As such they were very busy, leaving Donald and della to be taken care of by their kind aunt matilda some of the time. Della was very shy and spent a lot of time either in school or with their aunt. Donald was a lot more outgoing and spent his time with his next door neighbor Goofy and the orphan mouse Mickey. Donald, feeling bad for his family, got a job alongside mickey and goofy who were also struggling only to get robbed. The robbing event traumatized Donald and while he became a bit of a coward, he dreamed of being a musketeer thanks to the musketeers that saved them. Years passed and he became a royal custodian alongside goofy and mickey.
They were clumsy and got into trouble often with their Captain named Pete. He berated them and criticized their dream. Much to Donald's sadness but mickey assured him things would turn up. Not long after that, Donald, goofy and mickey were promoted to musketeers responsible for protecting the princess. Donald took the job seriously, but was admittedly interested in the princess' lady in waiting Daisy. He tried to put his interest in her aside when she didn't seem to be interested and continued his job. The first attempt to rescue Minnie he failed, goofy and mickey saved both her and daisy while he hid. The situation made him feel immensely guilty so he vowed to try again. But they were all split up thanks to pete's efforts. He was the first to learn that pete was betraying them and told mickey before running away. The situation got out of hand though and goofy, and a old turtle friend, managed to convince him to step up to help. He forced down his cowardice, secretly vowing to never be a coward again. He saved mickey and assisted in rescuing the princess and daisy.
They were officially promoted as musketeers and he romanced daisy, while goofy romanced Clarabelle and mickey romanced Minnie. Things for a period of time went smoothly. Until his parents died. Both his father and mother were old and very sick, resulting in them passing away. Luckily, his romance with daisy only blossomed more thanks to the incident, her support of him made him feel like he could still have a family. He was aware of the social difference though and warned daisy he was too poor for her. She admitted to stop caring and told him Minnie and mickey made it work, so they could too. Meanwhile Goofy and Clarabelle broke up and goofy eventually moved on with his new girlfriend. Around that time the land began to grow old and die thanks to the stolen golden harp. The harp was a present to Minnie but now that it was gone france suffered. He lived with goofy and mickey and began to starve. As such they sold their cow and mickey returned with beans. Outraged beyond belief, he threw the beans and went to bed angry. However he awoke in a new land thanks to a beanstalk and found a castle with immensely big food. They found the harp and the giant that kept her, eventually getting the harp back and defeating the giant. However the giant became their friend, and things resumed to normal. Then goofy went to leave for America to start a new life and around that time so did his sister Della. She fell in love with a American duck and ran away with him. Donald was happy for her and the two wrote letters back and forth and always made a visit here and there.
Donald stayed in france for a while with mickey, daisy and Minnie but then one day his uncle scrooge wrote a apology letter to him. This resulted in Donald and scrooge having a long, long talk and the two made up and began to spend time together. Scrooge was still a greedy duck but he was far kinder in his older years and repented since. He gave some financial support to him and della and spent time with them, particularly during Christmas. One day though, he received news from scrooge that both della and her husband were killed in a automobile accident, leaving their triplet sons Huey, Duey and Louie to Donald as he was next of kin. He asked daisy to come with him and she agreed to do so. So he and daisy moved to America to raise his nephews. Daisy would visit france often but usually came to see him and the boys. Donald became a US Citizen and decided in order to protect his nephews he had to serve the navy. So when the boys were a bit older, he joined and begged scrooge to help him. Scrooge agreed and took the boys and during summers and holidays Donald always made sure to help out. He was a bit worried about his boys going on so many adventures but he was overall supportive as long as the boys were safe.
One day, from a letter written by daisy, he learned mickey was missing. Then he learned max was missing. Then Goofy. Then Pete. Donald, shocked, went to find them but only to disappear and reunite with mickey and goofy here. He became determined to help his friends and make sure to get to his nephews and daisy again.
