Personality:
Iago is best described as self-serving and greedy. He loves money and he is a bit of a narcissist. He is dishonest, manipulative and selfish. He can also be impulsive and talk too much, especially when annoyed or nervous. He has a tendency to show a dirty cowardice and a over gluttonous desire for riches and fame. He is also, however, compassionate and sympathetic. He may not admit it due to being a bit of a macho type of bird but he does care about others. He is kind and has a soft side but he usually won't show it due to his cynical and jaded self. He's loyal to his friends and despite his shortcomings can be courageous and noble.
History:
Iago used to be Jafar's right hand bird, as such he worked hard for jafar and helped him with his schemes. Jafar was bitter towards the sultan and desired his throne. When jasmine turned sixteen, iago feared the riches he wanted would be gone but thankfully she refused to marry just any dumb old prince. She wanted to be in love with the person first and not be forced to marry a royal as the law required. This bought them some time to scheme some more. They managed to steal a jewel that lead them to the cave of wonders but only a "diamond in the rough" was permitted to enter. Fortunately jafar found the diamond in the rough in the form of a street rat boy. They found him and bargained with him only to fail to get the lamp due to abu and Aladdin escaping their clutches. They decided to use a backup plan of having jafar marry jasmine instead. But then suddenly some random prince by the name of Ali came and successfully wooed the princess. Desperate jafar attempted to brainwash the sultan but failed. Causing both of them to officially be stamped as traitor. Thanks to jafar's watchful eye he learned ali was actually Aladdin and iago managed to finally snatch the lamp and become jafar's right hand bird to his new sultan hood. But Aladdin thwarted them and defeated them, letting them be lead to the desert.
He was fortunately a good digger and escaped out of the lamp. He proceeded to argue with jafar about their plight to which jafar snapped at him that he needed to help him due to adopting him from the bazaar. Iago, angered, dropped the lamp into a well and abandoned jafar. He met up with Aladdin to manipulate his way to the palace, but was rightfully ignored. But then iago was into the scuffle Aladdin got into with abis mal and his friends. Iago, not to be messed with, assisted in saving aladdins life. And used that against Aladdin. The fiancé to the princess agreed to welcome him in but snuck him about due to being a traitor. Thanks to abu and rajah attacking him, iago was outed out and spared only by luck. Genie convinced iago to help Aladdin make up with jasmine, due to her angry at his lies. He manipulated her to forgive him and befriended the pair. He started to actually LIKE the group when jafar convinced him, by fear of punishment, to betray them again. He trapped them to all get captured by jafar, much to iago's guilt. He changed his mind and freed the genie to save Aladdin again, for real this time. And he succeeded so iago felt no need to help anymore. Except when he realized these were his friends. His real friends. And he charged against jafar, nearly losing his life over it but he managed to get lucky due to the genie law of not killing. And he stayed beside Aladdin for true this time, getting into hijinks. Until he, genie and jasmine disappeared. Iago went to find them but found himself trapped in the ask thatguy home. Wanting to save his own feathered behind, he lied saying he was on their side. But he in reality wants to find jasmine and Aladdin and return home.
