No More Fooling Around (Open)

[Sir Ruber]

(ooc: May 15th. Afternoon. Training thread.)

Ruber walked out leading the group to the woodlands. They were here to train. Among them were Iron Liz, Jessica, Daphne, Harry and Mai. Each here to improve themselves. Some had been in battles in the war and before. And some this would be the first time to fight. Others would be right behind them.

Ruber turned to face the small group.

"This war has gone on for over five months. It's not likely to end anytime soon so if you wish to fight you must be prepared. There are plenty of weapons we have brought here. Lasers, swords, staffs, you name it." said Ruber.

He held a sword in his hand asking them to choose their weapons. Once the five had he smiled.

"Then stand aside and start getting used to your weapons while waiting for opponents." said Ruber.

Iron Liz picked a Blade Blaster which was two weapons in one know knowing she could switch between laser and a sword if she needed to.

Jessica having only used a frying pan once to defend herself knew she had to get tougher. She picked up a staff deciding to start with a lighter weapon not wanting to risk getting herself hurt or anyone she trained with.

Daphne had been taking a few martial arts courses and training. She had surprised Fred when she'd disarmed and defeated that samurai while they were trapped in the game. But she was far from an expert. She knew she needed to improve. She chose a sword and was ready to fight.

Harry chose a blade Blaster as well as it was similar enough to the phasers he was used to using in his time. And the sword mode could be useful if it was a close-range training or combat.

Mai chose a bow and arrow as many of her Harpy Ladies had similar weapons and it would be a far range attack. Having archers in the army couldn't hurt. While most of the battles were usually one on one with swords or lasers there could come a time the entire army tried to attack so they should be prepared. Besides she could always master more than one weapon if she needed to.

[Captain James Nicholls]

Milo Thatch, Fred Jones, Velma Dinkley, Dylan Rhodes, James Nicholls and Raphael all came to train. For Raphael and James, it was to improve even more. For Milo, Dylan, Fred and Velma, it was to get started on their skills

Milo was more of a hands-on approach type of guy. Even if he was under danger he played more smart than tough. But Ruber had a point, this war was going to be for a while. And he needed to improve the best way he knew how, which was learning to fight. Milo chose a sword, being a bit of simplistic mind, and waited for someone to train with him. He kept trying to use the sword properly but ended up accidentally dropping it. It dropped near Iron Liz and he replied "Whoops, sorry!"

Velma immediately noticed Jessica in the crowd and followed her lead. Sword in hand, she replied with a nervous smile to her new friend "Jinkies. This isn't a video game anymore I guess" She then sighed, replying with a smile "Thank goodness there was sword-training books back in the library" She grabbed her sword and swung it quite expertly, only to get nervous and drop it accidentally. Annoyedly, she facepalmed

James grabbed his best bet, a sword, and proceeded to go search for a partner. He was not very confident training without someone. He felt like he kind of needed the helping hand in that regard. He looked around and saw Harry. Curious about the blade blaster, he looked at it before looking at Harry "Hello there. Would you mind sparring with me? I was looking for a partner"

Fred meanwhile noticed daphne. Feeling like he could actually bond over this, he went over to her immediately. He grabbed a staff as he came over to her. With a slightly cocky smile, he replied "Hey daph, mind if I become your sparring partner?" He wanted to be her sparring partner. Because it prevented any other guy trying to train her. Wait, why did that matter? It wasn't like he was jealous. He trusted Daphne, just not the guys. Yeah, that was it

"Good thing you lead people out here, Ruber. Could use the fresh air" Raphael grabbed his sais immediately and showed he was a bit excited by swirling them around his hands. He turned to Ruber and replied "I think it was about time we had some fun, huh man?" He hoped so, because Ruber was his friend for a while and Raph had a itch to battle with said friend.

Dylan meanwhile noticed Mai. To say he was interested to train with her would be totally true. The magician grabbed a blaster to be prepared, but he also had his magic, which could help him if really needed. He turned to Mai and replied "Hey there. Mind if I spar with you?"

Iron Liz Vs. Milo:

Iron Liz grinned walking over to the sword. She picked it up and handed it to Milo.

"It's ok. It's what we're all here for. To learn and get better. Do you want to train with me? I'm a bit rusty." said Iron Liz.

Jessica Vs. Velma:

Jessica saw Velma have a sword. She chuckled.

"I'd prefer a video game myself. You get power ups, extra lives, and a better chance of winning. But this war is different. I never had to deal with anything like this in my world. The closest we had was Doom and the Weasels but it was Valiant who really defeated them. Roger and I tried to help but all the toons owe a lot to him in my world."said Jessica.

Jessica watched her try and fail.

"It's never as easy as it looks. It's why I normally use frying pans. Bigger handle to grab. But I'm sure you'll get the hang of it." said Jessica.

She paused for a moment glancing around and turned back to Velma.

"You want to be sparring partners?" asked Jessica.

Harry Vs. James:

Harry looked up seeing James and nodded.

"As long as you give me time to hide if I hurt you. I don't want Chester after me." said Harry, with a grin.

He then chuckled.

"I'm just kidding. Although I may hide anyway if he gets mad." said Chester.

Daphne Vs. Fred:

Daphne smiled as Fred joined her.

"If only you can keep up." teased Daphne.

She chuckled as she swung her sword a bit before turning to Fred ready to fight.

Ruber chuckled.

"Yes we did." said Ruber.

Ruber grinned and nodded.

"Yes. I promised you a fight when I got better. And now's the time." said Ruber.

Mai Vs Dylan:

Mai looked up seeing Dylan and shrugged.

"I'm trying to practice archery. Bows and arrows are the weapons of my favorite duel monsters cards. So unless you can deflect arrows I don't see how you can help much."said Mai.

Iron Liz Vs. Milo

Milo felt a little relieved he didn't get ridiculed or laughed at. Not that it wouldn't surprise him. He was no athlete. But he actually preferred not to be laughed at for once. He couldn't help but nod enthusiastically at Liz's invitation to train. He grabbed a sword again and nodded "Sure. Happy to help. But I gotta warn you I'm not the best myself. But like you said, better to learn than not"

Jessica Vs. Velma

Velma laughed a little "Only there's no extra lives here. You're right. Gotta be a tad more cautious" She then nodded about Jessica's backstory, quite interested in it "Doom huh? Yep definitely like someone picking a fight for sure. Glad you and that friend of yours got rid of him when you had the chance" She then nodded about trying to get the hang of things "Well fighting has never been my strong suit until now" She then beamed "Oh I'd love to. I think it'll be helpful for both of us if we learn together"

James smirked at Harry's joke about chester "Don't worry about that. He'll come around" He then laughed a bit more at harry's teasing. He then grabbed a sword and gave another one to Harry "Well you won't be able to get the chance to hurt me anyway. Best be on your feet my friend" He then stanced to prepare for harry's attack whenever it came

Daphne Vs. Fred

Fred couldn't help but smirk back, Daphne had a fire to her that he couldn't help but enjoy. It was known daphne back in the old days tended to get captured but her spirit finally caused her to stop getting kidnapped. If anything if she got kidnapped, that meant the rest of them did. He raised a sword, feeling a bit stuck to not respond but tried anyway "Oh I can keep up, daph. Just be sure to not go easy on me, no matter how hard it is" He winked laughing a bit

"You definitely did. But don't get too sad when I beat you pal" Raphael replied, smirking in amusement. He got his stance ready, grinning like a fool. He was normally a fan of training to get something done but when it came to a battle oriented one, he always got the competitive side to him. He chuckled and replied "Your move first, ruber"

Mai Vs. Dylan

Dylan couldn't help but be relieved she wasn't in the mood for battle just yet. Archery sounded more his thing anyway. He chuckled "Well if you're doing that I can just accompany you and we can see if one of us is screwing up" He grabbed a bow instead and aimed right at the target to shoot. Only to miss it entirely. He shrugged "Guess this is why I'm a magician and not robin hood"

Iron Liz Vs. Milo:

Iron Liz smiled.

"Well then we'll learn together. And you know you were one of my favorite parts of the film. You showed that you don't have to pick up a sword to be a hero. Sometimes it's a book. What good would soldiers be without training, or battle plans? And there are many parts to a war. If you decide fighting's not your thing you could help people plan battle strategies. Or help people in the lab design weapons and devices. So many things you can do. Don't just think you have to fight to help." said Iron Liz.

She hoped she was being convincing. She always loved Milo from the Atlantis films and kind of wished that tv series hadn't been canceled and shoved together to make a weak Disney sequel. Not that seeing their adventures continue wasn't great but it just didn't flow right as a movie. She then smiled at him.

"How about you make the first move?" asked Iron Liz.

Jessica Vs. Velma:

Jessica nodded.

"If I saw the creep here I'd definitely hit him with my frying pan. He tried to kill me and Roger. Heck all of Toon Town and more. All for money." said Jessica.

Jessica smiled.

"Well we all have to start somewhere and fighting's not exactly my strongsuit either. Usually I just end up outsmarting people or have a strong enough weapon like my frying pan to stop them." said Jessica.

She paused holding up her staff and swung it at Velma.

Harry smiled.

"I hope so." said Harry.

Harry nodded.

"I'm so used to using phasors so these weapons are still so new to me. I definitely don't want to hurt myself or one of my allies by accident so this training will be good." Said Harry.

He then charged at James swinging his sword at him.

Daphne Vs. Fred:

Daphne twirled her sword around a bit and smiled.

"I'm far from the damsel in distress I was in the old days but even I'm still new at these weapons. So I guess we'd kind of be learning together. I won't go easy on you but I don't want to hurt you either Freddy." said Daphne.

She knew it was bound to happen in training. She'd just try not to overdo it so if she did hit Fred hopefully it wouldn't hurt too bad.

"Alright. Here I go." said Daphne.

She charged at Fred swinging her sword at him.

Raphael Vs. Ruber:

Ruber grinned.

"So confident. We'll see who wins won't we?" said Ruber.

He chuckled as the turtle gave him the first move.

"Well if you insist." said Ruber.

He grinned and charged at Raphael swinging his sword at him.

Mai Vs. Dylan:

Mai smiled.

"Well it's good to have a good range. I mean swords are good but range attacks would help if we were outnumbered and needed to at least weaken or drive back the other armies. Lasers, arrows, whatever we can use." said Mai.

She grinned.

"And you didn't magic it to hit the target? Impressive. With practice I'm sure you'll be great." said Mai.

Iron Liz Vs. Milo

Milo was a bit surprised as Iron Liz immediately told him how great he was without being a skilled fighter. Milo couldn't help but smile. Back at his home, he was made fun of for being weaker and more interested in reading. If it weren't for his grandfather he would most likely feel more alone than ever. Milo recently had accepted he wasn't the best fighter. But hearing her say it back to him kind of gave him confidence. He replied calmly "Oh well thank you so much. That means a lot believe me" He then patiently replied "I'm mostly doing this to be prepared at the off chance I would have to fight. And I honestly do want to help in every way I can. Mostly through science but at the off chance we're attacked here" Milo then nodded at the idea of taking the first turn. Milo raised his sword carefully and charged after her, being careful enough not to just come right at her.

Jessica Vs. Velma

Velma couldn't help but widen her eyes realizing doom tried to practically cause population destruction all for money. She then felt a bit of ice in her stomach feeling that while some of her enemies were dangerous they weren't that dangerous. She replied "Then he'd be a imbecile to even have the nerve to show up here. That's awful I'm so sorry about that" Velma then saw jessica come towards her and she immediately defended herself. She replied "That's true. We all start somewhere"

Harry Vs. James

James smiled at harry then listened to him explain that it would be kind of challenging for different weapons since he was used to phasers. James nodded "I think training is always a good way to prepare" James then allowed harry to swing at him and he quickly defended himself. He then aimed to attack harry, but he was hesitant mostly to not harm harry.

Daphne Vs. Fred

Fred listened to daphne mention that while she wouldn't go easy on him she didn't want to hurt him. He replied "You won't. I trust you Daph. But if you do it won't be a big deal since this is training. And you definitely are gonna do better than me I'm sure" Fred might have been complimenting her a bit but it was how he felt. He saw her progress in preventing from getting captured, she was way more resourceful than she was when they were teenagers. She then charged and he quickly held his sword up to defend himself but then aimed to charge at her sword.

Raphael Vs. Ruber

Raphael however was stoked to try as opposed to many of the members. Especially since he was fighting his friend. Raphael did have a bit of bloodlust within him. Mostly just to kick ass and take names. Raphael then chuckled "Confidence is key when it comes to fighting, man" Raphael then allowed ruber to come at him then defended himself from the sword. He then attempted to have his sais push the sword away from him so he could get an advantage.

Mai Vs. Dylan

"Right. I do have a interest in more range oriented attacks anyway. That's kind of my go to when it comes to fighting" Dylan replied. He then smiled a bit at mai's encouragement. Despite the fact he missed he did do admittedly well. He nodded to her and replied "Thanks. It's best to keep trying. Especially in this type of scenario" He then aimed again and kept hitting. He missed again but he didn't let it discourage him. He aimed one more time and at least got it near the bullseye.

[Sir Ruber]

Iron Liz Vs. Milo:

Iron Liz smiled.

"Your welcome. I know Audrey and Vinny would say the same. And so would Kida and the rest of your friends from back home. Knowledge is a strength too. Don't forget that." said Iron Liz.

She nodded.

"It is good to know some self-defense. We did have a few people kidnapped here when everyone else was out. We've split the army into two houses since then and uped our security. But we can't really guarantee they won't try again." said Iron Liz.

Iron Liz paused as Milo charged at her and she blocked it barely as she was pushed back a little.

"Not bad for your first try." said Iron Liz.

Jessica Vs. Velma:

Jessica smiled.

"But I suppose you and your friends defeated people like that all the time. People who would hurt or scare people away all for oil, or gold or some other valuable thing. Your world was lucky to have you and your friends to protect it." said Jessica.

She grinned as Velma blocked her attack.

"That was good. Are you sure you haven't done this before? "said Jessica, curious.

Harry nodded.

"I'm going to start with weapons similar to what I know and eventually learn others. I may not return to my time anytime soon so I need to learn how4 to adapt." said Harry.

He grinned as James blocked it and he grinned.

"Maybe I should be asking you for pointers. You seem to be doing this quite well." said Harry.

Daphne Vs. Fred:

Daphne nodded.

"I guess the worst happens we have medkits inside. Plus a few magical healers. That's the nice thing about this place. I used to think magic didn't exist. Then we met the warlock Vincent Van Ghoul. Captured 13 ghosts. Then \met hose awful cat creatures on Moonscar Island and then Sarah Ravencroft's ghost. And that was all in our world. So many other sorcerers, witches and things here. I guess I'm grateful most of the creeps we ran into back home were just people in masks." said Daphne.

She smiled as he blocked her attack and she dodged trying to outrun his attack.

Raphael Vs. Ruber:

Ruber chuckled.

"Quite true. But you shouldn't count your chickens before they've hatched." said Ruber.

He smirked seeing Raphael block it and try to push him away.

"I see it may be a challenge just to keep this fight going. But I look forward to it." said Ruber.

Ruber grinned and tried shoving forward to try to push Raphael back a bit.

Mai Vs. Dylan:

"Well, there's also the laser guns or regular guns. They're ranged weapons. But the ranged weapons do have their drawbacks. They can be deflected or blocked with the right tool or shield." said Mai.

Mai nodded.

"Right. Don't give up." said Mai.

She paused with a grin.

"Guess I should let my Harpy Ladies test their skills as well." said Mai.

As she spoke, the Millennium Necklace around her neck glowed as her duel disk and deck appeared on her right arm. She pulled out her four Harpy Ladies placing them on her duel disk as the four Harpy Ladies appeared. She had them attack targets with their whips and arrows.

"I guess next weapon I might try is a whip. It can catch your enemy by surprise to use a weapon people may not expect." said Mai.

She fired again missing the center but hitting the target and frowned. She was getting closer with each aim.

[Raphael]

Iron Liz Vs Milo

"I won't. Thank you, truly" Milo replied humbly. Iron Liz was quite a nice lady. He reminded himself to go out of his way for her alongside Audrey and Vinny. Then he blushed a bit as Kida was brought up. Kida meant the world to him but he was relieved she wasn't here. Her being here would've made this ten times more personal. Then again, having audrey and vinny here made it personal. But kida was important to him. He then nodded, paying attention to Iron Liz's words that while the security improved and now they had two houses, the chance of capture was still likely. He replied "Of course they'll try again. They're dirty. They'll do anything to get what they want"

"Really? Oh wow thanks. I have never been good at this sort of thing. Let me try again, I'll try not to hurt you. This is still practice after all" Milo then charged again. Waiting for iron liz to defend herself

Jessica Vs. Velma

"We did but they were mostly thieves and greedy ex-employees. The only real threats we've come across is this insane witch Simone and her nasty asssistent lena. And ben. Don't get me started on that traitor" Velma replied bitterly. Yes, she was definitely hateful towards lena and simone, but ben just got to her far more than any enemy. She felt like a fool to admire him. And even more so to help him accomplish his insane goal. She then continued to spar with jessica and then blushed at her praise "No honestly. I've watched daphine fight and read a couple sparring books but that's about it. I was mostly a tech geek"

"We both need to adapt my friend. You and I are from different times. This time is too simple for you and too advanced for me. So I understand" James replied sympathetically. He then continued to train with harry and blushed before chuckling "You're not too bad yourself! You're quite impressive. We could learn from each other" James then attempted to strike again, awaiting harry to defend

Fred Vs. Daphne

Fred listened to Daphne talk about their past encounters. From thieves and people in masks, to monsters like simone, fred was rather relieved overall his mystery solving career was simplistic. This was a whole new ball game. He had to actually be pretty prepared for the strange and mystical. He was most cynical overall but since being here, he had a somewhat new appreciation for the strange. Hell, their team had tons of stuff. "I'm pretty grateful too myself. I mean if I had to deal with genuine threats all day, I'd retire by thirty" He then allowed daphne to get some elbow room before he charged at her yet again. He wanted to do well but he also was nervous about fighting, not finding the heart to ever hurt her.

Raphael Vs. Ruber

"I ain't ruber. I know I'm gonna win. At least round one" Raphael joked, smirking as he said this. He didn't really care. He just wanted to be confident for his friend. Raphael had no such problem with fighting. He was very trusting ruber could take care of himself. That said he restrained himself, not wanting to genuinely hurt him by accident. "I do too, man. It'll be fun to spar ya" He replied enthusiastically. He then charged again, dodging ruber's dodge, aiming to trip ruber.

Mai Vs. Dylan

Dylan nodded in agreement "True. They can get blocked. But for me it works cause if I see the block I can find new ways and they'll have to adapt to my attacks" Dylan then listened more to mai's encouragement. He then widened his eyes in awe as mai activated her harpy ladies. "Wow. Mai. That's incredible" Dylan replied. He then saw mai's attack get closer to the target "Like I said. Keep trying"

[Sir Ruber]

Iron Liz Vs Milo:

Iron Liz nodded.

"Your welcome." said Iron Liz.

She sighed.

"I'm afraid you're right. I just hope we're more prepared for the next time." said Iron Liz.

Iron Liz chuckled.

"Well, there's a first time for everything. And I don't worry. If something happens it's just training. We got magic and medical supplies to help out." said Iron Liz.

She swung up her sword again trying to block him again.

Jessica Vs. Velma:

Jessica nodded.

"Sounds a lot like Doom. Only he had a lot more help and dip. His own evil concoction that could kill any cartoon it touched. He demonstrated it by...... killing a cartoon. That poor little shoe. He was just a kid and Doom murdered him. He didn't even get a trial or a lawyer. And he almost got Roger and me. I..."

She trailed off as tears began to form. She'd seen what happened to the shoe and had been helpless to save it. Or even save herself and Roger. If Valiant hadn't stopped the weasels and Doom she and Roger would have been the first to go. Followed by the rest of toon Town.

"I still have nightmares. Roger knows I have them but... I try not to talk about them to him. I don't want to upset him." said Jessica.

She paused wiping her eyes dry and listened to Velma speak of her own enemies.

"I guess we both have had cruel enemies." said Jessic.a

She smiled at Velma.

"Then perhaps it's beginner's luck then? How curious. Well let's keep trying." said Jessica.

Harry Vs James:

Harry nodded.

"I guess you're right. Similar yet different circumstances for the both of us." said Harry.

Harry grinned.

"Well thank you. I've tried to do some training back home but many of our battles are with our ship's weapons. So we don't always get to fight one on one." said Harry.

Harry paused as James swung at him and he swung his sword narrowly blocking it but it pushed him back as well.

"Wow. I'm definitely glad you're on our side." said Harry.

Daphne vs. Fred:

Daphne nodded.

"I guess we were so lucky to only have gone up against real supernatural threats a handful of times. Or had some supernatural help of our own with ghosts, zombies, warlocks or the Hex Girls. If we'd been truly on our own any one of those creeps could have finished us off." said Daphne.

She shuddered to think how close they had all come to being drained by the cat creatures. If there had been no zombies or they'd been too late to help them the five of them and Beau could have been joining the zombie horde. Or Ben or Sarah could have enslaved or destroyed the world with their magic if they hadn't succeeded.

"I guess our luck is still going. We ended up in Critic's army instead of one of the bad guys so that's a plus." said Daphne.

Daphne paused swinging her sword at Fred as he charged as their sword clashed.

"That's pretty good Freddy. You sure you weren't on the fencing team or something?" asked Daphne, teasing him a little.

Ruber Vs. Raphael:

Ruber chuckled.

"Definitely confident. Guess we'll see." said Ruber.

Ruber grinned as they continued.

"Definitely. It's been far too long." said Ruber.

He was surprised Raphael dodged his attack and charged at him. Ruber stumbled back but managed to keep his footing barely.

"Using sneaky ninja moves on me?" asked Ruber, with a teasing grin.

He chuckled again and charged at Raphael again.

Mai Vs. Dylan:

Mai nodded.

"True. Being a magician gives you more opportunities to do other things that others may not." Said Mai.

Mai smiled at his shock.

"Yes. In my world duel monsters is a game we use to play with holograms. But with certain objects like the Millennium Items, we can bring the cards to life. The Millennium Necklace I'm wearing is one of seven. This has the power to give the wielder visions of the past and future. Mike has the millennium ring. Keep an eye out of if you see any other Millennium items like this. They're called the Millennium Puzzle, Millennium Rod, Millennium Scale, the Millennium Key, and the Millennium Eye. Each gives the owner different powers and can even shield the person from other items power for protection to a degree. However, if someone defeats another person in a duel that Millennium Item belongs to the other. So I have to make sure to not be defeated so I don't lose the necklace." said Mai.

She watched her Harpy Ladies continue their own practicing as she turned back to Dylan.

"I'm sure it will. Do you wish to try again?" asked Mai.
