Personality:
Mif, at first glance, can seem unmotivated. He can often be found napping in odd spots. While many hyenas get a reputation of being lazy due to being asleep in the day, they’re usually active at night -- but not Mif. Day: night: it’s always a good time to sleep. If there’s a chore to be done, you can bet that Mif... probably isn’t going to do it. He’s lazy and knows it, occasionally even taking jabs at himself for it. This isn’t to say he’ll necessarily disobey an order and despite everything, he does seem to have a concept of priorities.
If sloth is his vice, tolerance is his virtue. While he is aware there might be a small conflict going on presently, Mif by default is at least open-minded. He’s never been keen to taking sides, even when the need to doso is increasingly urgent, and will converse with just about anyone who comes his way. He’s fond of humor, puns especially. His demeanor is usually mild, even borderline unemotional. He does have buttons that can be pushed, but these tend to be some extreme buttons. This isn’t to say he can’t ever be upset or annoyed, but it can be hard to tell because he tries to take things in stride. There’s a certain amount of melancholy behind his supposedly simple persona, probably because he’s so familiar with death.
History:
As far as the childhood of a male hyena can go, Mif’s was standard fare. Although, he had a strange affinity for collecting skeletons in his youth that was slightly concerning. Upon reaching adulthood, Mif left his birth clan and traveled with a small group of other male hyenas on the lookout for a new clan to move in with. He spent some time in a nature reserve where humans would travel through on these strange things they called “safaris” and gawk. Sure, being the creature he was, Mif wasn’t terribly popular. He had more fun watching the humans than they did watching him. Rather than being, like, an actual hyena, he spent his time taking food from humans and learning their customs, including a little bit of reading. Though, his knowledge of humans is by no means flawless.
The easy life, however, wasn’t meant to last. Upon straying too far from the protection of the reserve, Mif and his group were targeted by hunters. Mif escaped with his life, but some of his friends did not. He understood the concept of hunting for sport from his previous study of humans, but having his friends shot in front of his face moved his demeanor around humans from trusting to... less trusting. He would definitely trust another animal before trusting a human in all honesty, although he tries not to let that bias show.
After the encounter, what was left of his group moved again, no longer feeling safe. This time, they came across the Elephant Graveyard of legend. Mif loved it. His fascination with dead things rediscovered, Mif had no intention of leaving. Ever. After being accepted by the clan who owned the area, Mif made the boneyard his permanent abode. There, he could forever be surrounded by the corpses he made a habit of collecting. He seemed happy enough. After a while, he had a proper lair made of bones; small and primitive as it was. His reputation boiled down basically to being the “weird fat guy who hordes bones”, in addition to being an unreliable slacker who seemed to conveniently vanish off the face of the earth when he was needed. And yet, even if he rarely ever showed his face to help the clan hunt, one can assume he’s capable of getting food on his own, if the not-starving factor is anything to go by. After a time, bodies began to show up at his doorstep, for it was common knowledge the dead were protected by him. Mif was completely okay with suddenly being the town undertaker. In fact, he even ended up giving a few proper burials.
Mif was ripped from his home of rotten flesh and wasn’t too happy about it, but as always tried not to let his emotions show much. Smile like you mean it and all that. Though he chose to side with Facilier, just because they seemed to match his “aesthetic” the most, he tries to keep out of conflict as much as possible. He’s agreed to be a gatherer of sorts, getting objects and herbs if requested. Mif for the most part hangs out near the border under the guise that he’s “standing lookout”, but is mostly just avoiding conflict.
Allies: Facilier’s Army (debatably)
Enemies: Critic’s Army (debatably), Ask ThatGuy’s Army (debatably), honestly you’d need to pretty much be Satan for Mif to actually see you as an enemy
Plans: Be a smartass mortician. Since he’s so neutral, he could possibly interact with members of other armies.. Til they find out they’re supposed to be enemies.
I wanna see this dude get involved in the dark arts. That sounds awful.
