Why did you pick him/her?: To help spy on the enemy camp, and for Queen Grimhilde to have a stronger use in the war as well.

History:
Rupert was a prince of a neighboring kingdom. He courted Grimhilde for a long time intending to marry her. But she soon learned he'd been seeing another woman in secret and had asked her to marry him. Jealous the man had turned on her she sought a way to get revenge. And this led her down the path to black magic and she imprisoned Rupert in her Magic Mirror. He would now be her slave forced to do whatever she wanted.
She let the woman he was in love with believe the man had rejected her. Heartbroken the women left the kingdom and Grimhilde enjoyed her revenge. She used the Magic Mirror to find out if there were others more beautiful than hers and over the years she had them banished or killed. One day King Thomas met her and asked her to marry her. She agreed knowing his kingdom was bigger and merged their two kingdoms into one. She took the mirror along with her.
When her husband died she was left to rule the expanded kingdom by herself. One day he said Snow White was the fairest and Grimhilde sent her huntsman out to kill him. When she showed the mirror Snow white's hurt he told it was the heart of a pig. Furious she left to poison Snow White. She poisoned her only to be driven to a cliff and knocked off by lightning. The Mirror remained no longer have a master until it was pulled into another world reuniting with its mistress where it continues to serve her. But using her genie's magic she freed him but at a price. He still had all his powers and was still bound to serve Queen Grimhilde as before. He just now had a body.
