Why did you pick him/her?: because joey was taken. a fun character to interact with joey and mai... after battle city she kind of poofed aside from the cameo in the finale. loved the joey/serenity sibling bond.

Personality: loyal; caring, friendly. She loves and respects Joey as her big brother. Despite living apart they've stayed as close as they could with letters, phone calls and emails. They hadn't seen each other in person since they were very little. When she got her operation because of Joey he became more of a hero in her eyes. And Mai became one as well along with Duke and Tristan who helped her get away from the rare hunters.
History:
Serenity was the second child of the Wheelers. From an early age, she was close to Joey and looked up to him. When she was six years old and Joey was seven their parents divorced. She and her mother moved out of town and Joey stayed with his father. She stayed in touch as often as she could letters and phone calls but it wasn't the same as really being there.
Years later she called Joey one day revealing she was going blind. Joey then learned of the tournament at the Duelist Kingdom and snuck aboard with Yugi's help. Tristan and Tea snuck aboard as well to join them. After their adventures in the tournament, Joey ended up in second place. Yugi won but gave the prize money to Joey to save Serenity's eyesight. Joey returned giving the money to the doctors to let Serenity see. The operation was a success but she had to adjust for her bandages to come off.
Tristan went to check up on her while Joey dueled. He told her about joey's duels but Tristan lied to her trying to not let her worry about Joey. When Tristan stepped out for a minute she asked her roommate to tell her about the duel and confirmed Tristan was lying to her. He apologized saying he didn't want her to worry but she told him she didn't. She'd have faith he would win and the three of them cheered Joey on as he won.
She later went with Tristan by train to Battle City to reunite with Joey. She kept her bandages on wanting the first thing she saw to be Joey. But along the way, they were attacked by rare hunters. And were rescued by Duke Devlin and Mai Valentine and together the quartet escaped in Mai's car. They found the group at the docks and Marik had brainwashed Joey and Tea into forcing Yugi to fight in this duel. Serenity tried to take her blindfold off but Tea told her to stop.
Serenity was forced to listen to the duel as Tristan, Mai, Duke, Tea, and Yugi all tried to reach Joey. In the end, Yugi manipulated the duel so he'd win after freeing Joey from Marik's mind control. Then Yugi started to fall but Joey swung across using the key to free Yugi before falling into the water. Serenity having removed the blindfolds saw Joey swing across and she grabbed the key and dove in after Joey. She unlocked his chains and saved Joey finally getting to see him after all these years.
Seto and Mokuba left to get ready for the finals while the rest figured out where the finals were. Then headed home. Afterward, they reunited at the finals and learned the other finalist were Ryou Bakura, Namu, and Marik Ishtar. The 8th duelist was a mystery at first until later they learned it was Ishizu. It was revealed Bakura was being controlled by a spirit in his ring and when it looked like he was losing to Yugi he pretended he was under Marik's control and released Bakura from his control who was hurt. Ryou was badly hurt and didn't know where he was or how he'd gotten there. Yami Bakura was afraid his host would die so he resumed control and took the brunt of the Pharoah's attack which knocked him unconscious. Marik stole the millennium ring leaving Bakura unconscious in his room.
The second duel Joey fought against Marik but it was revealed he was Marik's adopted brother Odion. And after using a fake Winged Dragon of Ra lightning struck both Joey and Odion knocking them unconscious. Serenity was horrified to see her brother hurt but none of them were allowed to help him or Joey would be disqualified. Joey eventually woke up winning the duel as Odion warned them of his master's dark side. Namu was revealed to be really Marik but as Odion passed out Yami Marik took over and revealed he was going to win this tournament.
Yami Marik defeated Mai in the next duel sending her to the Shadow Realm angering them all especially Serenity. Mai had been one of her first friends since coming to Battle City and now she was gone. She was relieved to hear Joey vow to defeat Marik and bring her back as only one and Tea knew of this plan at first. The final duel was Seto and Ishizu. And despite Ishizu's best efforts, Seto defeated her with some help from a vision of the Millennium Rod. Instead of summoning his god card, he summoned his blue eyes changing the future and making him the victor. Ishizu then gave her necklace to Yugi seeing this as a sign the future could change and that her brother and the world could be saved.
Ishizu latter told the group about her past. That Marik resented being a tomb keeper and his darker healf took over after killing their father. And that Marik had stolen Slipher and Ra. She'd hidden Obelisk and given it to Kaiba and started this tournament to lure out the rare hunters.
Before they could start the finals they were abducted into the virtual world. Noah Kaiba, his father Gozaburo Kaiba and the Big 5 had arranged this to steal their bodies and return to the real world separating the group. Yugi, Joey and Tea defeat 3 members of the big five. Serenity was alone at first until Tristan and Duke came to her rescue. They ran into Nesbit, the fourth member of the Big Five who challenged them to a duel. Serenity, Tristan, and Duke triple dueled Nesbit on a 3 on 1 duel. Tristan lost the duel protecting Serenity and despite Duke and Serenity winning Nezbit claimed Tristan's body as his own as he technically lost. Tristan ended up in the body of a monkey robot for awhile. At first, he couldn't speak and even when he did no one believed it was him at first. But soon realized he was telling the truth.
Serenity traveled with the others after Kaiba defeating the fifth memeber. Noah attacked them having brainwashed Mokbua and later turned nearly everyone to stone except for Yugi at the end. Yugi used a mixture of his own deck and Seto's to finish the duel and defeat noah. Which returned everyone to normal. Noah led them back to the tubes to go home but instead stole Mokbua's body into the real world. Only to find he missed Mokuba and decided to save them. Gozaburo meanwhile dueled seto. The others got out safely while Yugi rescued Seto and they returned to the real world. Noah said goodbye to Mokuba and used the last of his energy to stop Gozaburo as they both died with the island's explosion destroying the virtual world as everyone else escaped on the blimp.
The semi-finals were about to begin as they arrived at the location. Serenity stayed to look after Mai while the others cheered Joey on. Tea stayed to look after Mai telling Serenity to watch her brother duel. Joey faced off against Marik and his will was stronger than Yami Marik expected. Despite using Ra himself in their duel Joey almost won if he'd been able to launch an attack. But his strength gave out and he passed out ending the duel. A helicopter was sent
Yugi and Seto faced off and Yugi defeated him. Furious Seto was going to leave. Joey woke up and along with the others including Ishizu stopped Seto. Ishizu asked him that if he knew away to help Yugi win to share it. Seto reluctantly did give Yugi a card but not telling him how to use it. Yugi took it in his deck and later drew it without looking at it. Despite Yami Marik's best efforts, and tricks Yugi was able to swap Marik and Yami Marik restoring Marik to his body. As Marik forfeited the duel his dark side was sent to the Shadow Realm. And this also restored his victims including Mai and Bakura who had been defeated before they'd gone to the virtual world.
Marik then gives the rod and ring to Yugi for safekeeping as they return home. Serenity reluctantly says goodbye to Joey returning home to her mother. Serenity talks to Joey before he leaves for America on the phone to stop the Orichalous gang. She worries about him and the others but is unable to go with them. She hears from them again after they win. But before they could return home Joey and Mai vanished. She also disappeared and ended up in another world. She reunited with Joey and Mai and found a strange golden scale. Learning it's a Millennium Item scared her at first but she was reminded they're only as evil or good as their owners. So she takes it hoping to use it to help somehow and learning from Mai she can use it to summon monsters as she somehow had the deck she'd used in the virtual world with her.
